Day 29: Use it, it’s Free!

29. Say thank you a lot. Figure out who the people who have helped you and your blog (or your business) the most. If you’re a blogger, that’s the readers, not the people who gave you mentions on their big blogs. The people who have given their time and energy to helping you get where you are. You owe your life from this point on to them. Make sure they know you’re grateful.

 I Googled the term “the lost art of saying thank you”, any guesses on the number of results? Over 500,000! Clearly we are all talking about it and yet I see signs that it is a dying act of humanity. One of the only things we have sometimes to show our emotions are “please” and “thank you”.

If you are just starting out and you are working out of your house, please and thank you are invaluable tools for networking, marketing and selling your business’s goods and services. And they are FREE, use them. Yes, always thank the ones that directly help you move ahead, but don’t forget the ones that are in contact with you but may not help you at all with your business. Hell, don’t for get to thank the wait staff during your business lunch. If you meet someone new at a networking event, send them a quick e-mail to thank them for speaking with you. Again, they are FREE.

PS – I will let you in on a secret, saying thank you keeps you on the top of their minds. They may not need your goods or services, but they may know someone who does. Always keep that in mind when you are faced with the need to say thank you or just walk away.
